Job Desc..: The Public Policy Director provides professional staff support to Mental Health America of Texas regarding advocacy for mental health issues, and coordinates policy initiatives, communication and activities of the policy office. Oversees activities to educate the public, state policymakers and allied professionals about mental health issues and works with affiliate executive directors, volunteers, mental health consumers, family members and advocates to develop and coordinate priorities in mental health policy decision-making in the state. The Public Policy Director assists in the preparation and presentation of reports, fact sheets, and proposals, represents Mental Health America of Texas on various task forces and ad hoc committees, and prepares and delivers written and oral testimony and speeches. The Public Policy Director is also responsible for overseeing, managing and implementing policy-related grant and/or contract funded projects and other duties as assigned.

Job Desc..: Texas Advocates seeks a person with intellectual and developmental disabilities for the Self Advocacy Training Director Position to promote self advocacy and self determination to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities across Texas. The Project is beginning its third year of operation. Qualifications and Experience: They must be committed to and be able to show how they have implemented the ideas and concepts of self advocacy and self determination in their own life. They will have experience providing interactive self advocacy training, assisting advocates to develop and implement person directed plans, and supporting local self advocacy organizations. They will have skills in networking and collaborating with a wide variety of community organizations, state leaders and decision-makers. They will have good written and verbal communication and organizational skills. They will also have state level advocacy experience. Job duties and Responsibilities: The Self Advocacy Training Director will be responsible for training and public comment. They will assist in developing and conducting interactive self advocacy and self determination training for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities and supporting the local coordinators in the San Antonio, Corpus Christi, and the Rio Grande Valley areas. The Self Advocacy Training Director will represent the Texas Advocates at public events, the legislature and state agency advisory boards and committees to present information on the needs and goals of self advocates. They will be required to travel regularly to conduct training at the local project sites as well as to other local, state and national workshops, conferences and meetings.
